The seminar will be addressed by Prof Rosemary Hunter of the University of Kent. The project involves feminist socio-legal scholars who have written alternative feminist judgments in a series of significant cases. |

| | | | | | Human rights law fellowship | | | The Irish Centre for Human Rights at NUI Galway, in conjunction with Bank of Ireland, has announced a one-year fellowship in human rights law for a scholar from a developing country at the postdoctorate level.
It is available from September 2010 and the successful researcher should start no later than October 2010. The deadline for application is August 15th, 2010. |

| | | | | | Free human rights workshop | | | The Human Rights in Ireland blog (www.humanrights.ie) has its first birthday on Friday, August 20th, 2010. It will hold a free human rights workshop in NUI Offices, Merrion Square, Dublin, from 1.45pm to 5pm.
The workshop will examine issues relating to ideology and human rights, society and rights engagement and the role of traditional and social media in analyzing and disseminating knowledge of human rights. Please RSVP editor@humanrights.ie |

| | | | | | HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER TO GIVE LECTURE | | | The Law Society of Ireland’s annual human rights lecture will be given by US human rights lawyer Morris Dees at 6.30pm on Wednesday 19th May at the Law Society, Blackhall Place, Dublin.
The son of a cotton farmer, Mr Dees studied at Alabama Law School and co-founded the Southern Poverty Law Centre in 1970.
He has received numerous awards for his work in taking human rights cases and is the author of three books. | | | | | |

| | | | | | Study on the Irish family launched | | | A joint Family Support Agency/ESRI study, Family Figures: Family Dynamics and Family Types in Ireland, 1986-2006, by Dr Peter Lunn, Prof Tony Fahey and Dr Carmel Hannan, is being launched by Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Mary Hanafin, today.
It covers developments in couple formation, including a comparison of cohabitation and marriage; likelihood of marital breakdown, and lone parenthood.

| | | | | | Refugee Council gets new CEO | | | Sue Conlon, a leading Immigration and Asylum Lawyer in the UK for over twenty two years has been pointed Chief Executive of the Irish Refugee Council replacing Robin Hannan.
Having first studied law in the late 1970’s she worked for years in the wider field of anti racism before returning to study law, this time with an emphasis on Social Welfare Law, particularly Social Security, housing, children, race relations and immigration.
Her practice involved advocacy before the UK Asylum and Immigration Tribunal.
She also worked politically in the defence and promotion of human rights.
